Position: ATTORNEY (INTERMEDIATE LEVEL POSITION)
Start date: 3 October 2022
Louw & Coetzee Attorneys is looking for an experienced individual, and good team player to join our team in Durbanville, in the Estates Department. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and have excellent verbal and written communication and negotiation skills in both English and Afrikaans.
This position is office based and requires own transport and willingness to travel to and from the Masters’ Office, and client premises from time to time.
Requirements:
– LL.B or similar law degree
– Minimum 3-5 years’ post articles experience in Deceased Estates administration, wills & trust matters
– Basic knowledge of curatorships/trust administration
– Excellent numeracy skills
– Excellent drafting skills
– MS Office Literate
– Knowledge of tax laws applicable in the context of Estates (previous estate duty clearance & estate planning is advantageous)
– Previous litigation & conveyancing experience is advantageous
– Previous experience in using estate administration software & Ghost Practice is advantageous
Responsibilities:
– Drive and attend to the administration process relating to deceased estates from client intake and reporting to the Master up to, and including, discharge of Executor with the assistance of a candidate attorney
– Day to day oversight and training of a candidate attorney
– Drafting, amending and finalising of Liquidation & Distribution Accounts, supplementary accounts, redistribution agreements
– Assistance with/signing off on various payment requisitions, cash reconciliations
– Management of existing Wills bank (over 1100 clients) and expansion of same by way of active marketing
– Drafting and amendment of Wills, Letters of Wishes, Living Wills and General Power of Attorney
– Trust registrations and related trust matters
– Consultation and advice (including written opinions) on estate matters to clients
– Liaising with the Masters’ Office (including travel to and from Masters’ Office when necessary)
– Attend to and manage queries by the Master on Estate & Trust matters
– Liaising with tax practitioners, auditors, valuators, estate agents and other role players/institutions within the estate administration process
– Liaising with heirs and walk-in clients on a daily basis
– Bi-weekly reports/updates to clients
– Workflow and fee reporting to the Head of Department;
